Chai Paani Magazine

This project proposes a decolonial perspective through editorial design, specifically focusing on art editorial magazine. Explored through, historical data, socialist theories, creatives reclaiming their narrative, that define the sociocultural, economic, political, ethnic and cultural landscape of south Asia. Focusing on colonialism as the reason for the system that creates this ‘racism of intelligence’. It operates as an instigator for action towards progress by creating an opportunity for individual agency for one to ‘discuss their own story’ and showcase it through the creative arts.

This is a project that supports my practice in general, utilizing my themes of activism, radicalism, cultural aesthetics through editorial graphic design. Aiming to dismantle contemporary visionaries of the creative arts and encourage the south Asian community to speak their stories through art and design. Aimed towards leaders of the creative arts industries who can then inspire creatives of colour with attention to south Asians. Also, people wanting to enter the creative arts but are restricted by cultural tradition.

All research are studies not only in a material level, but mostly in a material culture perspective. From researching colonialism, imperialism, socialist theories exploring habitus and upbringing. The task of decoloniality is central to this work, as the notion of Westernised systems controlling future career prospects for the south Asian community is still luring in the background with racism being instilled in our education systems.

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story can make all the difference. There is room for everyone in the creative arts, regardless of your cultural background.

Let it empower you.
